Lucile M. Wright Air Museum Fund Awards three US Space Camp Scholarships

The Lucile M. Wright Air Museum annual Scholarship Fund at The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation awarded scholarships to attend the U.S. Space Camp to three local boys.  The boys will be able to help pay for a  week of their choosing in Huntsville, Alabama at the U.S. Space Camp.  DYRESS BATTEN is a current 10th grader at Fredonia High Schoo and a member of the Dunkirk Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.  JACK FORSTER is a current 8th grader at Fredonia Central Schools.  GAVIN SWANSON is a current 8th grader at Washington Middle School and a member of the Jamestown Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.  If you know someone in grade 4 through 12 with good grades in Mathematics and science and a genuine interest in aeronautics and aerospace contact the Community Fund at 661-3390, email LLynde@crcfonline.org or wrightairmuseum@gmail.com, or go to apply here for an application.  Applications must be received by November 15th each...

DIGITAL PLANETARIUM OPERATOR NEEDED

The Lucile M. Wright Air Museum is looking for a candidate with a knowledge of Astronomy to operate their planetarium for three shows on Saturday at 11:15 am, 12:15 pm, and 1:15 pm.  Other shows may be required for school classes or groups by appointment.  Some training may be required and compensation is negotiable.  Apply at the museum between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday.

DOORS OPEN JAMESTOWN 2017

Nine hundred and forty five people visited the Lucile M. Wright Air Museum this year for Jamestown Doors Open.  The Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron 402 was on hand to help.  Jamie Warden of 1435 Shadyside Lane in Lakewood won first prize in our drawing for a Shop Chautauqua County Gift Certificate.  David Monroe of Celoron won second prize for a Revell Model of the Space Shuttle Colombia.  Brenda Hagadorn of Beechview Avenue in Jamestown won third prize for a Jamestown Up Close bag of passes and prizes.  Prize winners may pick up their winnings between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm Tuesday through...

STUDENT EXPLORATORY AIRCRAFT MECHANICS LEARN SKILLS

The Lucile M. Wright Air Museum finished its' Student Exploratory Aircraft Mechanic course on November 5th. Twelve students spent twenty four hours on four Saturdays at JCCMTI learning how to weld, repair sheet metal, and apply fabric to aircraft.  The course was funded by a Community Service Grant from The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.  The students receive log books to document their work during the course.  The instructors, both Federal Aviation aircraft inspectors, sign the logbooks at the end of the course to verify their accomplishments. Pictured above are three students with their instructors displaying a main gear strut fairing they repaired during sheet metal class.  Hannah Brown at left shaking hands with her instructor, Matthew Marchincin second from left, Rob Przybysz center, Richard Meredith instructor second from right, and Ron Ciura instructor at right.  Hannah Brown, a junior at Jamestown High School and a Cadet Technical Sargent in the Jamestown Composite Squadron 402, was one of the top students along with Matthew and Rob.  Hannah plans to use her newly learned skills in the United States Air Force after graduation. STUDENT EXPLORATORY AIRCRAFT MECHANICS FLY WITH SOUTHERN AIRWAYS

  A Student Exploratory Aircraft Mechanics class is offered by the Lucile M. Wright Air Museum in cooperation with JCC Maintenance Technology Institute and is funded by The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. The 20 students in the current class received a surprise enhancement to their training.  Southern Airways offered to fly any of the 20 students in the class on round trip flights from Jamestown to Pittsburgh. The eight students pictured with the class coordinator signed up and enjoyed the flights on Saturday October 8th.  The two flights were on time, smooth, and a great aviation learning experience.  The students discovered the semicircular rules for determining appropriate flight levels, the base of the altitude structure,  how weight distribution affects the center of gravity, and general airline operations.  The crew on the way home took them to the airplane early and conducted a thorough walk around with much explanation about turbo prop engines and flight controls.  Thank you Southern...

STUDENT EXPLORATORY AIRCRAFT COURSE TO BE OFFERED

The Lucile M. Wright Air Museum and Jamestown Community College will offer a Student Exploratory Aircraft Mechanic Course for high school students, home schooled students that are high school aged, and adults looking to explore a different occupation.  Classes will meet on 10/1, 10/8, 10/22, and 10/29 from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM with a half hour for lunch at the Museum located at 300 Main Street or JCC Manufacturing Technology Institute. Classes are funded by a Community Service Grant from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation and are free to students.  24 hours of instruction and hands on experience will include acetylene, arc, brazing, mig, and tig welding, making parts for and covering with fabric the museum’s rebuild Great Lakes airplane.   The instructors are FAA certified and students receive authenticated logbooks to document their experience. Bethel Baptist 3rd and 4th graders enjoy field trip to Wright Air Museum

Bethel Baptist School 3rd and 4th graders visited the  Wright Air Museum Thursday morning the 26th of May.  Shown in front of the helicopter, They were treated to an hour long planetarium show featuring a presentation of our sky and what was available to see in the sky that night.  Included were visible planets, stars, constellations, nebulae, and shooting stars.  All the students received some flight training in the flight simulators flying around Jamestown and Chautauqua Lake.  Each took a turn at the NASA console and drove the rover around the Mars...

Lucile M. Wright Air Museum “Doors Open” Saturday 16 January

The Lucile M. Wright Air Museum, "A YOUTH ORIENTED LEARNING CENTER," will be open Saturday the 16th from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm for "Doors Open Jamestown."  A raffle will be available for visitors to enter to win a "Discovery Flight" DONATED BY JAMESTOWN AVIATION.  A second ticket will be drawn for a $25.00 Shoptauqua gift certificate.  The winners will be drawn at 5:00 pm.
